Medical and health care

Physicians, nurses, dentists and physiotherapists can serve part-time at urban and rural clinics performing examinations and well-baby checkups. Health care students and other practitioners can offer public health education classes and basic instruction to rural health care workers. Among the positions available are:

  • Training of doctors to perform tubal legations. Also work in a region hospital
  • Skills Required: Trained doctor
  • Conduct a workshop for physicians and clinicians on cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. Also work in a regional hospital is an available option.
  • Skills Required: Interns, Family practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants
  • Training nurses about different family planning methods
  • Skills Required: Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, family planning counsellors
  • Train physical therapy aids and work with children with physical disabilities at a special school for these children.
  • Skills Required: Physical therapist to train aids or work independently, medical student to work along side of a physical therapist.

HIV PROJECT:

Like other African countries, HIV/AIDS is a serious challenge in Tanzania. If left uncontrolled, problems of HIV/AIDS can get worse killing thousands of people. Therefore, many hospitals and local NGO’S are presently running HIV/AIDS testing, counselling, and awareness campaigns in Tanzania. As a volunteer your help is needed to support and develop ongoing activities.

Skills/ Qualifications:

There is no specific qualification required to volunteer in this project. A caring attitude and a sincere desire to help goes along way.

Responsibilities:

Volunteers should be willing to help children and patients suffering from HIV/AIDS. Volunteers take care of HIV/AIDS infected children and people, and help them engage in educational and training activities meant to increase awareness and stop the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. They will also work with children in a school setting. Volunteers will support counselling and education programs in hospitals and communities. You will help to raise personal risk perception among the youth, men and women by involving them to actively participate in HIV/AIDS preventive education. Your help is also expected in outreach programs such as hospice care, recreational and educational programs, voluntary HIV counselling and testing, and educational seminars and conferences on the virus within the local community.
