Deforestation is a major problem challenging the forest ecosystem of Tanzania . With the growing demand of energy in Tanzania , the rate of deforestation is likely to accelerate other ecological/environmental problems. The situation has necessitated the government to encourage its institutions, Community Based Organizations and individuals to salvage the ecosystems so that both, the available scarce land and water is conserved. Located closely to newly announced National Park Mkomanzi, the Ruvu Valley is home to a wide array of African wildlife. From the open savanna of the Mkomanzi National Park to the forest and mountain peaks on either side of the valley, the area provides a rich mosaic of landscapes which offer a wealth of undisturbed habitats for spectacular wildlife including elephant, hippo, leopard, lion and buffalo. Rural Maasai tribe community celebrate their roots with traditional, festivals, music, food and exuberant celebrations. Populations of Africa's large mammals are in decline. As part of your project work you will survey and monitor threatened communities, such as elephant, buffalo and many species of antelopes. You will discover how to interpret wildlife tracks and signs in the lush vegetation of the Acacia woodland, and bringing the plight of this region to the attention of the international scientific and conservation community. There is no need of specific qualification for placement on the conservation project in Tanzania . However, a volunteer interested to work on this project should have a love for nature. Work on the conservation project is physically demanding and bush skill is vital As a volunteer, you will work with Ruvu Project or KIVIWAMA a community based group dedicated to conserving the wildlife and nature forest. However, you will mostly work in a nursery which aims to produce indigenous tree species. As a volunteer in environmental project, you will prepare nursery beds, sow seeds, weed, trim, prune, and thin various indigenous tree species. The planted seedlings grown and nurtured by our volunteers are later distributed at no charge to villages in other parts of Tanzania . Depending on the season, additional tasks may include planting, collecting seeds, replanting, eliminating diseased trees, and inventorying fauna and flora. You will also work with community on analyzing problem caused by wild animals and how to solve it along with National Park. Let us know what you are looking for and we will be happy to help.
